The Problem

The owners of the SDM art gallery wanted the site visitors to have the opportunity to get acquainted with the works of artists in detail and not just to see the paintings, but to have the experience to feel at a real exhibition.

The Solution

I studied the problem from the point of view of a physical world and came to the conclusion that the current catalog of artworks allows to create a mechanism for a virtual exhibition.

The Process

Each artwork has its own characteristics:

  • subject (type of artwork)
  • author
  • year
  • technique
  • size

I decided that part of this information can be used as the basis for creating a mechanism for personalized virtual exhibitions at the request of the user.

Virtual exhibitions data structure

The gallery team found my idea interesting and we decided to test it on the visitors of the real exhibition.

We conducted a survey of visitors in the Gallery and showed them printouts of artworks, structured in accordance with the created matrix. The idea was found to be convenient and I started working on the design.

Final vision

AR feature

In the process of working on the final UX concept, I had an idea to show most famous artworks also in the augmented reality format (AR).

The icon has been added to all versions of the site, including the desktop one. If the hardware does not support AR, we write about the capabilities of the mode and suggest the user to use another device.
