Hi, I’m Raphael. Staff Product Designer & Builder, based in Italy

What I Do
Across many domain areas, the same problem came up in different forms. Workflow graphs, procedural rendering systems, and telemetry for motion data have the same goal: making complex systems easier to reason about. I care about systems that generate complex behavior and make it understandable, clear and actionable in real time.

At Grafana Labs I work on observability, incident response, and AI-native workflows. These systems run under real conditions: live data, latency, and things breaking in real time. That’s where design decisions get tested for real.

I usually start from how a system works under the hood: how information moves, changes, and becomes usable. Most of my work doesn’t end in Figma. I design the flow, then I build it. The code is where it either works or doesn’t.

How I Think About Design
I don’t think of design as visual polish or UI on top of a finished system. I think of it as shaping the system itself: its parts, rules, and how it behaves. The goal is to make complex things easier to understand by how they’re built, not just how they look.

Background
15+ years turning complex systems into products that hold up in production.
